Misteria Paschalia 2017 in the circle of French music culture
Add date: Wednesday, 28 September 2016
Next year will see the 14th edition of Misteria Paschalia festival, and the first one in its new formula. Starting in 2017, every edition of the event will present a programme focused on a single culture and aesthetic characteristic of selected schools of performing old music. The first country to which the upcoming edition will be devoted is France, with its famous ensembles, conductors, soloists and repertoire. In order to create an event that would be coherent in an artistic and scientific aspect, the renowned French conductor and artistic director of the Le Poème Harmonique ensemble, Vincent Dumestre, was invited to support us in creating the programme of the festival.
“The enthusiasm, with which Vincent Dumestre accepted my invitation to co-create the upcoming edition of the Misteria Paschalia festival makes me very happy. Without a shadow of doubt, he is an outstanding artist, who not only gives concerts in our city (he has performed four times in previous editions of the festival), but first and foremost took up the effort to learn about its history and culture, looking for perfect places to present the refined repertoire on the Holy Week in 2017. Dumestre is going to bring some of the most renowned artists, soloists, directors and stage designers to Krakow, some of whom are still unknown to the Polish audiences. This is why I can already invite everyone to the festival”, said Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of the City of Krakow.
The new concept for the festival includes inviting outstanding artists-residents, who will be responsible for the artistic spirit and programme. The reins of Misteria Paschalia 2017 will be given to the leading French conductor and an exceptional instrumentalist, a lute and theorbo virtuoso, curator at La Chapelle Corneille in Rouen – Vincent Dumestre – who, together with his ensemble, Le Poème Harmonique, will perform in Krakow four times.
“We want to provide an opportunity to present the French performing tradition, its characteristic atmosphere and practices, by presenting the most important achievements of virtuosos from the country. Our concept is a realisation of the idea of international co-production and cooperation of countries in the field of performing arts and music. The presence of Vincent Dumestre in Krakow in the past years was always an opportunity to discover the beauty of French interpretation aesthetic. The conductor is very open to cooperation with us and he has a lot of interesting ideas. It brings us all a lot of joy”, said Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office, organiser of the festival.
“I feel very honoured and moved by the proposal from the Mayor of the City of Krakow. I am already looking forward to this cooperation and the new, important future of the Misteria Paschalia festival. The symbolic theme for upcoming edition of the festival will be the triptych. We will discover the essence of the Baroque sacral art and some of the rarest works. See you in Krakow!”, said Vincent Dumestre, artistic director of Le Poème Harmonique, resident artist of the Misteria Paschalia 2017 festival.
The new formula of the festival is not all. During the upcoming edition of the Misteria Paschalia festival we will present new programming, premieres of international musical and theatrical co-productions, as well as new venues for the festival concerts, fitting the special atmosphere of the Holy Week. Krakow will be visited by artists, who had never performed in Poland before. Of course, there will be no shortage of ensembles and performers of early music, loved by our audiences. The detailed programme of the 14th edition will be announced soon.
As always, the upcoming edition of the Misteria Paschalia Festival will take place in Krakow in the Holy Week – from the 10th to the 17th of April 2017. Join us!
