Having begun voice training at the conservatory in Metz, Benoit Arnould continued his studies with Christiane Stutzmann at the conservatory in Nancy, graduating in 2007 with a gold medal and special distinction for achievements in the area of art song; he also holds a degree from the Sorbonne (licence in musicology).
The artist debuted in the oratorio repertoire (Bach’s Mass in B minor and Magnificat) with the International Bach Academy in Porrentruy under the direction of Michael Radulescu. Perhaps this fact influenced the further development of his career, for the artist is most often to be heard in works of religious character. Among the works he has performed are both of Bach’s Passions (in the role of Christ), Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge (Peter), Mozart’s masses and Requiem, Berlioz’ L’enfance du Christ, Handel’s La Resurrezione (Lucifer) and Rossini’s masses. The singer has been invited to collaborate with such distinguished musicians as: Hervé Niquet, Jacques Mercier, Laurent Cuniot, Vincent Dumestre, Benoit Haller, Françoise Lasserre, Franck-Emmanuel Comte and Martin Gester. He has recorded with, among others, Le Concert Spirituel (Lully’s Proserpine and Charpentier’s Missa ‘Assumpta est Maria’) and La Chapelle Rhénane (Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri). One of Benoit Arnould’s recent recordings – Capricornus’ Theatrum Musicum with Benoit Haller – received the prestigious Diapason d’Or and Choc du Monde de la Musique awards. His imminent concert plans include an appearance in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with Les Musiciens du Louvre under the direction of Marc Minkowski at the Salle Pleyel in Paris.
